Introduction
The Faculty of Economics at Thammasat University was established in 1949.
As a leader in the teaching of Economics in Thailand, The Faculty offers
a broad range of academic programs and other training opportunities. The
first big step toward internationalization was the introduction, in 1969,
of a Master of Economics program degree, taught in the English language.
Since then, Bachelor's and Ph.D. programs in English have been added to
the curriculum. The Faculty boasts a strong teaching staff that today totals
82, including 44 faculty members with doctoral degree and seven on study
leave to pursue doctoral degrees.

Programs
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics ( Thai Program
)
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is the general undergraduate degree program
offered by the Faculty of Economics. The classes are taught in Thai, and
the program offers a comprehensive introduction to economic theory. The
4-year degree program admits about 350 students each year through the nationwide
university entrance examination administered by the Ministry of University
Affairs.
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics [BE] ( International
Program )
The Bachelor of Economics ( International Program ) provides motivated
students with a comprehensive undergraduate program in Economics. The program
is designed to promote self-development and critical analysis, and to provide
familiarity with advanced technology. With English as the medium of instruction,
students develop the communications skills necessary to function effectively
in the global economic environment. This 4-year program focuses on quality,

The Master of Economics (Thai Program)
The Master of Economics (Thai Program) provides busy administrators and
executives with the opportunity to complete a master of economics degree
program on a part time basis. This program, taught in Thai, allows students
to take up to seven years to complete the degree requirements through evening
and weekend classes. Applicants for this program are required to hold a
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university recognized by the Thammasat
University Council. The program admits about 50 students each year.
The Master of Economics (English Program)
The Master of Economics (English Program) was founded in 1969 with assistance
from the Rockefeller Foundation. This innovative and popular program attests
to the foresight of administrators and flexibility of the institutional
structure. With English as the medium of instruction, the program provides
not only an in-depth understanding of economic theory and practice, but
also the communication skills necessary to effectively articulate this
knowledge in the international economic environment. Through course work
in theoretical and applied economics and a thesis involving original research,
the student develops advanced academic and professional abilities. Applicants
for this program are required to hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited
university recognized by the Thammasat University Council. The program
admits about 30 students each year including 5-10 international students.

The Master of Business Economics
[MBE] (Thai Program)
The Masters Program in Business Economics was established
in 1997 as a part time program, taught in Thai, that applies economic instruments
and theories with modern business practices to prepare experienced business
professionals with the skill and understanding to effectively compete in
the global market place with entrepreneurial effectiveness and social responsibility.

The Ph.D. in Economics (English Program)
The Ph.D. in Economics (English Program) continues the tradition of academic
excellence, by providing advanced training and research opportunities at
the doctorate level. As the entire program is conducted in English, the
course work, research and dissertation are internationally relevant and
provide the skills necessary for the scholar to effectively interact with
colleagues throughout the world.
International Training Programs (In English)

Economics Development with Special Reference to the Thai Economy
This three-month intensive course is specifically designed for government
officials, development professionals, policy makers, and international
students interested in economic development issues of Southeast Asia.

Economics Educators' Training Program
The three-month intensive course is specifically designed for university-level
educators from countries in transition to a market economy. The focus of
the program is teaching and research methodology. Participants see economic
theory in practice and analyze economic policy in the Thai context.

International Training Program in Health Economics
Program A : Health Economics and Policies in Developing Countries
The two-week course aims to equip policy makers and other health-related
personnel with the analytical skills in dealing with problems of planning
and resource allocation in the health sector.
Program B : Economics Evaluation of Health Services and Programs
The objective of the one-week course is to provide intensive training
in using the techniques of project evaluation to determine the desirability
and economic feasibility of social investment projects.

Postgraduate Economics Non-Degree Program
This one-year graduate-level program offers international business executives,
scholars, and diplomatic personnel an individualized course of study to
fulfill specific needs and interests. It is particularly suited to students
holding bachelor's degrees who do not wish to enroll in a full economics
graduate degree program, but are interested in economics theory and its
application to the Thai economy and the problems of developing countries.
Research
The Faculty of Economics, through its Economic Research and Training Center,
offers the resources and expertise to conduct research in a wide range
of economic areas. The Economic Research and Training Center provides governmental
agencies, international organizations, and private corporations with quality
research and comprehensive training programs.
Academic Exchanges
Through education exchange agreements with colleges and universities throughout
the world, the Faculty of Economics is internationalizing the educational
experience of students and faculty members. Student exchanges allow Thai
undergraduates to experience a semester or year at a partner institution
and provides for an equal number of foreign students to participate in
the economics program at Thammasat University. Faculty Exchanges provide
English speaking instructors for the international programs, encourage
collaborative research activities, and provide Faculty of Economics lecturers
with an international sabbatical experience.
Seminars, Symposia, and Other Activities
Throughout the year, many programs of general interest as well as specialized
seminars, workshops and symposia, are organized for students of economics
and the general public. Public lectures, exhibitions, and conferences are
a regular part of this programming. Specialized training programs can also
be developed to meet the specific needs of public or private organizations.
