Course Descriptions

General Basic Courses:

TU 110 Integrated Humanities - 3 credits

A study of Western history thoughts and ideologies, arts, art history, Western architecture and their influences on the modern world.  Emphasis is placed on the connection of thoughts and inspirations of the above subjects from the Ancient Greeks to the Middle Ages in Europe, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment and the Post-Modernism periods.  Analysis of the influence of Western civilization on Eastern civilization

TU 111 Thai Civilization - 3 credits

Study of Thai society from its early establishment with the emphasis on social evolution, the formation of society and state.  Study of social structure, politics, economy, vision, wisdom, religion, and belief, including art and literature appreciation.Study of social changes caused by internal and external factors.  Analysis of social adjustment in modern society which is the basis of present society, as well as problems and future direction of Thai society.

TU 112 Western Civilization - 3 credits

Study of the evolution of Western civilization from the beginning to modern time, using the economic situations, political institutions, civilization, and scientific knowledge as the bases. Initiation from the small groups of civilization intermingled into the unique Western civilization.  The uniqueness that makes the Western civilization becomes international civilization nowadays.

TU 113 Fundamentals of Philosophy and Religions - 3 credits

A study of the fundamental concepts of philosophy and religions that are important to humans in the aspects of attitudes, moralities, and living.  Enabling students to think, analyze and criticize the social phenomena reasonably and can apply the knowledge to living with others in the society.

TU 115 Man and Literature Through Modern Media - 3 credits

A study of man and the Aesthetics.  Creation of various branches of fine arts and performing arts by illustrating its importance to social evolution in different periods of times.  Comparison of important Aesthetic theories, as well as the human values of the East, the West, and Thailand.

TU 116 Man and the Aesthetics: Art, Music and Performing Arts - 3 credits

A study of man and the Aesthetics.  Creation of various branches of fine arts and performing arts by illustrating its importance to social evolution in different periods of times.  Comparison of important Aesthetic theories, as well as the human values of the East, the West, and Thailand.

TU 117 Eastern Civilization - 3 credits

Study of the fundamental concepts of Eastern civilizations, emphasis is laid on South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia that highly interrelated to Thailand.  Increase understanding in the evolution of each civilization in the mentioned regions.  Vision causing the creative fine works in the Eastern world, especially in the period of transition from the Western influences.

TU 120 Integrated Social Sciences - 3 credits

Study of the origin of social sciences in the modern world, the separation of social science from science, the acceptance of scientific paradigm for the explanation of social phenomena. Analysis of significant disciplines, concepts and theories in social science by pointing out their strengths and weaknesses when applied to social problems.  Analysis of current issues with the application to social theories so that each issue is understood from the individual group, macro-social, national and world perspectives.

TU 121 Man and Society - 3 credits

A general study of human societies, structural constituent, social process, changes and social evolution caused by environmental and technological changes and other important factors.  Analysis of different types of societies to see the relationship among various constituent parts within the society and the relationship between society and environment.  Viewing important social problems in general and in Thailand.

TU 123 Society and Law - 3 credits

General Part- Society and Law.  Study of the existence and evolution of society from early social establishment to state society and the characteristics of modern state, law-enforcement institutions, morals, traditions, culture and law.  The existence and evolution of legal state law. Specific Part- Basic knowledge of essential laws that university students should have such as common law, public law and private law.

TU 124 Society and Economy - 3 credits

Social and economic studies based on the subject of social science.  Analysis of social and economic evolution worldwide and in Thailand.  Emphasis on behavioral influence, social and political values, tradition, culture and structure of classes to economic institutional system.  Study the direction of economic institutional changes caused by the evolution of social system.  Emphasis on evolution and internal connection of Thai economic systems (urban and rural).  Structure of society and politics.

TU 130 Integrated Sciences and Technology - 3 credits

A study of scientific concepts, theories and rules concerning inorganic particle from atomic to molecular levels, the interaction between atom and molecule, chemical and inorganic chemical reaction relating to biological condition of living things and the evolution of life on the planet.  The exploring of basic concepts in science and technology that are pertinent to modern day living, important debates concerning the relationship between science and technology, and the environment and the society and their distinctive features as separate fields of knowledge.

TU 131 Man and Physical Science - 3 credits

A broad study of scientific ideas, theories and laws about human physical environment, ranging from topics on the universe, energy and matter, to those on atoms. Includes methods which scientists use to acquire knowledge, and the application of this knowledge for useful purposes. The emphasis is on the effects of science and technology on society and other branches of knowledge.

TU 143 Man and Environment - 3 credits

Study of relationship between man and environment in nature.  Understanding the connection between living organisms and their environment to create natural balance, utilize and manage environment effectively and sustainably.  Pointing out the effect of scientific and technological prosperity on environment, society and economy.  Realizing the importance of environment to humans in present time and in the future.

TU 152 Fundamental Mathematics - 3 credits

Rules of inference, methods of proof, and mathematical induction.  Inequality, absolute value, and solving inequality.  Function, types of functions, partial fraction, graphing on functions.  Analytic geometry in a plane, translation of axes, circle, ellipses, parabola, and hyperbola.  Permutations and combinations.
1. Differentials of functions (algebra, exponential, logarithm), chain rule or
2. Matrix, linear programming solving using matrix or
3. Probability

TH 161 Thai Usage 1 - 3 credits

Study and practice Thai language usage in order to communicate in listening, reading, thinking, writing and speaking. Enabling students to get the main idea and communicate knowledge and thoughts orderly and rationally.

EL171 English Course 2-3 Credits

Prerequisite: Determined by an English Placement test or equivalent

Study and practice English language in four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Emphasis on intermediate speaking and advanced reading.

EL172 English Course 3-3 Credits

Prerequisite: EL 171

Study and practice English language in four skills.  Emphasis on news listening, conversation, the more advanced reading and paragraph writing.
